CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's water polo team closed out its competition at the 2025 Claremont Convergence Tournament Saturday, falling, 16-8, to No. 21 Marist, and dropping an 11-6 decision at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Libby Slater led the Broncos with three total goals on the day.
Kate Rodman added two goals across two games.

vs. No. 21 MARIST
- Santa Clara (4-8) outscored No. 21 Marist in the third quarter, 5-4, but the Red Foxes (9-6) limited the Broncos to one goal in each of the other three periods to earn a 16-8 neutral site victory at the Haldeman Pool.

- The Broncos stayed within one goal at 2-1 in the second quarter, but it was the first and fourth periods that off-set Santa Clara, where No. 21 Marist outscored it, 5-1, both times. Marist's Rachel Dean led all players with five goals. Teammates Paige Naegle and Alyssa Mullane added three goals each, while Kendell De Beer chipped in two.

- Santa Clara's offense was spearheaded by Libby Slater and Kate Rodman, each contributing two goals. Marist goalkeeper Ines Sanchez made 17 saves. Haley Tassell made six in goal for the Broncos.
vs. CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS
- Like its first match of the day, Santa Clara battled Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for two periods, but it was the other two periods that set the tone for the game. The Broncos outscored the Athenas (6-8) in both the second and fourth periods, 3-2 and 3-1, respectively. But it was duo 4-0 periods in the first and third frames for CMS that set it on the path to victory.

- Claremont-Mudd-Scripps established an early lead with four goals in the first quarter, including two from Grace Clark and one each from Caitlin Muñoz and Valerie Wraith. Santa Clara responded in the second quarter, tallying three goals, including one from Slater and Rizof.

- The Athenas struck again in the third quarter, with Clark and Wraith continuing to dominate, extending the lead to 10-3. The Broncos managed to rally late in the game, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter, with Rizof netting two of them, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.

- Defensively, CMS goalie Natalie Stearns made five saves for the Athenas in goal, while Tassell made three saves.
