Softball Closes Golden Coast Classic Tourney with Run-Rule Victory over Columbia

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The bats stayed hot and the pitching remained stellar in Santa Clara softball's 11-3 run-rule victory over Columbia on Sunday's final day of the Golden Coast Classic Tournament.  The Broncos scored a total of 45 runs and gave up 19 runs to finish with a 4-1 record over the three day tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Hope Alley kick started the Santa Clara (16-10) offense with a two-run home run as part of a four run opening frame knocking out Columbia (6-8) starter Jordan Hill after just a third of an inning.  Alley finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the 11 hit attack for the Broncos.  Taryn Clements also had a three-hit game and drove in three runs including the final two in the bottom of the sixth to run rule the Lions.
  • In the home half of the fourth with the Broncos ahead 6-1, Alley tripled to the right center gap to plate two runs as she was a double shy of hitting for a cycle.
  • Cari Ferguson started in the circle and gave up one run over four innings to earn her third win of the year.  She and reliever Kendal Manley held the Lions to five hits.
  • Hill was the losing pitcher dropping to 2-3.

NOTABLE NUMBERS FROM THE TOURNAMENT:
