SANTA CLARA and SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – In a match that took over 24 hours from first serve to completion, No. 38 Boise State defeated No. 72 Santa Clara men's tennis 4-1 at the Ronca Tennis Center on the Cal Poly campus on Tuesday. The match started at 11 a.m. PT on Monday in Santa Clara where SCU won the doubles point after a brief rain delay. However, just as singles started, the off and on rain caused several delays forcing the match to be played on Tuesday in San Luis Obispo where Boise State was going to play Cal Poly on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Playing at the Degheri Tennis Center, Luca Bluett and John Kim defeated the No. 69 ranked doubles team of Carson Baker and Jett Middleton 6-4 to claim the doubles point for Santa Clara (9-6).
- And just as singles action got under way, play was halted multiple times due to the intermittent rain showers. At around 5 p.m. PT on Monday, it was decided to play the remainder of the match down in San Luis Obispo.
- With a noon PT start on Tuesday, No. 38 Boise State (13-4) took over the match winning the first four singles matches to clinch the victory. Lukas Velik secured the team win ousting Luca Bluett 6-4, 6-4 on court three.
- In a battle of nationally ranked players atop the singles lineup, No. 108 Jett Middleton came up on top over No. 104 Alexander W Eriksson 6-3, 6-2 that put Boise State up 3-1.
- Boise State also won on courts five and six.
