No. 71 Men's Tennis Drops WCC Opener to No. 7 San Diego

SAN DIEGO – No. 7 San Diego blanked No. 71 Santa Clara men's tennis 4-0 in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams on Saturday at the Hogan Tennis Center.   
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In doubles, No. 7 San Diego (16-3, 1-0 WCC) picked up the point on the clincher from Stian Klaassen and Oliver Tarvet on court one.  The Toreros tandem ranked No. 2 nationally, trailed 4-5 against Luca Bluett and John Kim but came back to win 7-5.  It came after Adrien Berrut and Savriyan Danilov shutout Tiago Boschmans and Luca Lemaitre 6-0 on court two.  The action on court three went unfinished with the match tied at 6-all between Alexander Watanabe Eriksson/Valentin Faure and Blake Kasday/Neo Niedner.
  • Berrut made it 2-0 in favor of San Diego with a 6-3, 6-1 win over John Kim on court four. 
  • Klaassen followed suit on court three, defeating Lukas Maskow 6-2, 6-2 for the third team point for USD.  
  • Danilov, ranked No. 57 nationally in singles, clinched the match beating Luca Bluett 6-2, 6-4.
  • Santa Clara dropped to 9-7 on the season and 0-1 in the WCC.

  • Santa Clara makes a trek up to Los Angeles to face LMU on Sunday.
