No. 71 Men's Tennis Downs No. 73 LMU to Earn First WCC Win

LOS ANGELES – John Kim was involved in both the doubles point and the match clinchers to help No. 71 Santa Clara men's tennis defeat No. 73 LMU 4-2 on the road to pick up their first West Coast Conference win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Kim's match clincher came on court five over Tristan Messerli 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.
  • In doubles, Kim teamed up with Luca Bluett atop the lineup to beat Sebastian Nothhaft and Youssef Sadek 6-4 to secure the first point for Santa Clara (10-7, 1-1 WCC) after the teams split the two doubles matches.
  • LMU (5-9, 0-2 WCC) bounced back taking the opening singles match on court six.  Jacopo Denitto made quick work of Tiago Boschmans 6-0, 6-1 to even the team score at 1-all.
  • Lukas Maskow and Bluett each won their singles matches on courts four and three to put the Broncos one win away from taking the match.  Maskow downed Youssef Sadek 6-2, 6-2 and Bluett took care of Cesar Ruiz 6-3, 6-4.
  • The Lions narrowed the gap to 3-2 on Arthur Pantino's triumph over Alexander Watanabe Eriksson in three sets on court one, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.
  • Kim's match clincher followed just as another tight match was coming to a close on court two which went unfinished with Nothhaft ahead of Luca Lemaitre 6-3, 3-6, 6-5.
