Women's Tennis Falls to LMU in WCC Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The doubles point proved to the be difference once again in Santa Clara women's tennis 4-3 loss to LMU in the Broncos West Coast Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.     

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Santa Clara (6-9, 0-1 WCC) and LMU (4-8, 2-0 WCC) split the first two double matches as it came down to court three where Fiona Arrese and Martina Bovio defeated Kacey Feng amd Anna Rahman 7-5 to take the doubles point. 
  • In each of Santa Clara's nine losses this spring, they have dropped the doubles point which has been the difference in more than half the results.  Five of the losses have been with a 4-3 score just as they were on Sunday.  
  • Camilia Samel-Druz put the Lions up 2-0 with a win over Tian Yu Dong 6-4, 6-0 on court two singles.  
  • Rahman put the Broncos on the board with her victory on court five over Kim-Michaela Zahraj 6-4, 6-2. 
  • LMU took the next two matches, clinching it on court six.  Martina Bovio downed Juliette Krumholz 6-1, 6-4. 
  • Santa Clara continued to battle winning the last two matches by Jillian Roa and Velizara Fileva.  
  • Roa was the lone Bronco that won her doubles and singles matches.
  • It was the second conference match for LMU who played Portland at home on Saturday.
