Women's Tennis Loses to Portland on the Road

PORTLAND, Ore. – Santa Clara women's tennis lost 6-1 to Portland in a West Coast Conference match on Saturday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center to drop their eighth straight contest.     

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Portland (6-8, 1-3 WCC) swept the two doubles matches and clinched the win at 4-1 on N. Arbaizar Martinez's 6-0, 6-3 win over Anna Rahman
  • N. Arbaizar Martinez was also part of the doubles point clincher teaming up with Aleks Dimitrijevic to defeat Daniella Dimitrova and Rahman 6-4 at No. 2.  
  • Playing on the three courts inside the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center, singles No. 1 through 3 played first with the Pilots winning at No. 2 and 3 to take a 3-1 advantage on the team scoreboard.
  • At No. 2, Alaia Rubio Perez beat Tian Yu Dong 6-1, 6-2 and at No. 3 Dimitrijevic dropped Velizara Fileva 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-2.  
  • Santa Clara's (6-10, 0-2 WCC) lone victory came from Daniella Dimitrova over Sally Pethybridge 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1.  
  • Arbaizar Martinez's match clincher over Rahman came at No. 5. 
  • Play continued with the Pilots taking the remaining matches at No. 4 and 6 for the 6-1 victory.

  • Santa Clara returns home to take on Long Beach State on Tuesday.  First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
