Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's water polo team scored 10 goals for the eighth time this season, but host Azusa Pacific got out to an early lead and held off a late charge by the Broncos to win a Golden Coast Conference matchup, 18-10, at Axelrod Pool on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps colleges.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Makenna Genco and Megan Chambliss scored goals for the Broncos (4-12, 0-3 GCC) in the first half. Azusa Pacific scored four goals in the first and six more in the second period to jump out to a 10-2 lead at halftime. Genco's score came in the first period and Chambliss' tally was in the second.
   
• The Broncos made their charge in the second half, matching the Cougars (14-11, 2-2 GCC) goal for goal with three in the third and five in the fourth. Back-to-back goals by Francesca Moynihan and Genco in the third period pulled Santa Clara to within six at 11-5, but that was as close as it'd get.
   
• A flurry of other goal scorers joined Genco and Chambliss from the first half, with Chloe Rizof scoring three times, and Sydney Maccabe, Evelyn McLaughlin, Francesca Moynihan and Kate Rodman each scoring one. Genco added another goal in the second half for two in the game and the first multi-goal game of her career.
   
• APU's Daniela Herrero Miralles made 14 saves in goal to slow the Broncos' offensive attack. Santa Clara's Fritzi Warneke recorded three saves and also grabbed two steals.
