SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis player Alexander Watanabe Eriksson has been tabbed as this week's West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week after toppling two nationally ranked players.
Watanabe Eriksson returned to the courts where his college career started at UC Santa Barbara to defeat his former teammate and No. 29 singles player Gianluca Brunkow 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 atop the singles lineup on Saturday.
The following day, the Stockholm, Sweden native took down No. 62 Azuma Visaya 6-1, 6-3 on court one to clinch Santa Clara's 4-1 win over Hawai'i in a neutral site match.
This weekend was the second time Watanabe Eriksson had success on the Arnhold Tennis Center courts during the 2024-25 season as he captured the B flight singles championship at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational last fall.
As the result of his weekend showing, he entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings at No. 104 in the latest rankings that came out on Tuesday.
It is the first such honor for Watanabe Eriksson.
No. 67 Santa Clara next play in Albuquerque, New Mexico to face Wichita State in a neutral site match on Saturday and against New Mexico on Sunday.
