ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Luca Lemaitre came through with the match clincher at 3-all, just 30 seconds after John Kim won his match to knot things up, in No. 67 Santa Clara men's tennis team's 4-3 victory over Wichita State in a neutral site match on Saturday.  The match was played indoors at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of New Mexico as part of the Jack Kennedy Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lemaitre clinched the match over Vanja Hodzic 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 on court three, part of four singles wins by No. 67 Santa Clara (9-4).
  • John Kim could have also clinched it as his match concluded just 30 seconds before Lemaitre's.  Kim defeated Amir Milushev 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 on court six.
  • Santa Clara swept the singles matches at No. 3 through 6 for the sixth time in the last nine matches during which they are 30-4 combined in those spots in the lineup.
  • Alejandro Jacome and Arenui Luethi claimed the team doubles point for Wichita State (5-7), narrowly defeating Luca Bluett and Kim 7-6 (9-7) atop the lineup after the two schools split the first two doubles matches.
  • The Shockers went up 2-0 winning the singles match on court two on Jacome's straight set victory over Lukas Maskow 6-0, 6-2.
  • However, the Broncos won the first set in the other five singles matches to put themselves in a good position.
  • Santa Clara evened the match at 2-all with wins on courts five and four.  At five, Tiago Boschmans handled Luke Bracks 6-0, 6-2 and at four, Bluett downed Ilias Worthington 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
  • The match came down to the battles on courts one, three and six where they all went to three sets.
  • Wichita State got the upper hand 3-2 on Kristof Minarik's victory over No. 104 Alexander Watanabe Eriksson 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
