No. 75 Men's Tennis Earn a Pair of WCC Road Wins

MORAGA & STOCKTON, Calif. – No. 75 Santa Clara men's tennis won a pair of West Coast Conference matches on the road this weekend to move up to a tie for third in the league standings.  The Broncos cruised past Saint Mary's 4-0 on Saturday and took down No. 49 Pacific 4-1 on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (12-8, 3-2 WCC) claimed the doubles point on wins by Luca Lemaitre and Tiago Boschmans on court two, followed by the clincher by Alexander Watanabe Eriksson and Valentin Faure on court three. 
  • Three singles victories followed, all by straight sets, on courts six, five and two to secure the team victory over Saint Mary's (5-14, 2-3 WCC).  
  • On court six, Valentin Faure easily took care of Bastien Maxant 6-1, 6-0.  Tiago Boschmans pushed the Broncos lead to 3-0 with his 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Francisco Duran on court five.  
  • Luca Lemaitre clinched it with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Thibaud Maxant on court two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Valentin Faure clinched the match for Santa Clara (13-8, 4-2 WCC) at 4-1 defeating Christof Schaertlin Coffey 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on court six. 
  • The Broncos took the doubles point after losing the first match.  Lukas Maskow and Tiago Boschmans edged out Jonty Giesen and Justas Trainauskas 7-5 on court two to secure the doubles point.  
  • Pacific (13-8, 4-2 WCC) evened the match at 1-all taking the first singles match on court one.  
  • The Broncos then reeled off three straight singles wins at court four, three and six. 
  • On court four, John Kim downed Vraj Patel in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to give the Broncos a 2-1 edge.  Lukas Maskow made it 3-1 with his 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Ran Amar on court three.

  • Santa Clara closes out the regular season with a home match against Gonzaga on Saturday.  Admission is free is the Degheri Tennis Center.
