SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second straight match, the Santa Clara women's tennis team came through on a 3-all clincher, this time courtesy of Juliette Krumholz. The freshman won in three sets over Nahreen Cheam to give Santa Clara a 4-3 victory over Pacific to cap off Senior Day on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center in the final home match of the season. Prior to the match, four Broncos seniors - Kacey Feng, Velizara Fileva, Jillian Roa and Olivia Wiese - were recognized in a pre-match ceremony.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Santa Clara (8-10, 2-2 WCC) took the doubles point and two of the first three singles matches to take a 3-1 lead. Pacific (5-14, 0-6 WCC) won the next two matches to even things out setting the stage between Krumholz and Cheam at No. 6. After splitting the first two sets, Krumholz came out victorious 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to give the Broncos their second West Coast Conference match of the season. Ten days earlier, Velizara Fileva won her match at 3-all in SCU's first conference win of the season over Saint Mary's.
- Daniella Dimitrova and Anna Rahman won both their singles and doubles match. They were paired up at No. 2 doubles to defeat Indiya McLeod and Alexis Sam 6-1 to secure the critical doubles point.
- Rahman was the first to finish her singles match defeating Rayna Sugai 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.
- The win by Dimitrova at No. 1 over Megan Carmichael 6-4, 6-3 gave SCU a 3-1 lead on the team scoreboard.
- Both of the next two matches went to three sets in favor of Pacific (5-14, 0-6 WCC) to knot the score at 3-all. Milena Maiorova downed Velizara Fileva 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 at No. 2 and McLeod beat Tian Yu Dong 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 at No. 3.
