LOS ANGELES — The No. 8-seeded Santa Clara University women's water polo team fell Friday to No. 1 seed, regular season champion, No. 12 nationally ranked and host LMU, 27-8, in the first round of the 2025 Golden Coast Conference Championship Tournament at the Burns Aquatic Center on the LMU campus.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Santa Clara (6-18) got two goals each from Megan Chambliss, Lia Lakis and Khloe Tarbet. It was the first career multi-goal games for both Lakis and Tarbet. Haley Tassell and Fritzi Warneke combined for five saves in goal. The Broncos scored six of their goals in the second half, three each in the third and fourth periods.

- Yanah Gerber scored four goals for LMU (18-11). Ruth Arino Ruiz, Cianne Benjamin, and Sophia DeMattia each added three goals. LMU goalies Alyssa Barnuevo and Talia Herbermann combined for eight saves.

- LMU got out to a big lead in the first half, scoring eight unanswered goals in the first period to lead, 8-0, after eight minutes. The Lions scored three more goals to start the second frame and led 11-0 before Santa Clara got its first score of the game, a power play goal from Chambliss off an assist from Sydney Maccabe. LMU would score eight total goals in the second to lead, 16-2, at halftime.
