SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf is well-represented on the 2025 WCC Men's Golf All-Conference Team with
J.P. Odland and Matt Robles earning a spot on the 10-man team and Alvaro Muller named honorable mention. Robles was also named as the conference's Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Bronco to win the award since Hayden Shieh in 2015. The West Coast Conference made the announcement on Tuesday.
"I can't say enough about the season that J.P. and Matt had," head coach
Andrew Larkin said. "To develop as quickly as they have is a testament to their hard work and desire to be elite. I'm proud of both of them and they are going to be a few of the great pieces for this program to build around going forward."
Odland landed on the all-conference team after a sensational sophomore campaign that has seen the Tiburon, Calif., product average 70.86 strokes per round - currently the third-lowest average in a single season in program history. Playing in all 12 tournaments, he has posted seven top-20 finishes with five of those being top-10 outings, including a pair of co-medalist titles at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate and the Goodwin. Odland made program history at the 2024 Alister MacKenzie in October, shooting 15-under par to tie the program record for the lowest individual total. He most recently tied for third at the WCC Championship - the best finish by a Bronco at the WCC Championship since Shieh tied for first in 2017.
"JP has been an outstanding leader on and off the course," Larkin said. "He has set the tone of what is expected of our players and has become one of the best players in the country."
Robles has had an equally impressive freshman campaign, averaging 71.13 strokes over 10 events. The Downey, Calif. product has tallied 15 rounds under par (second on team behind Odland's 19) with six rounds in the 60s. He also posted five top-10 finishes on the year with a season-best tie for fourth at the Nick Watney Invite where he shot 8-under 205. Robles is just the fourth player in program history to win WCC Freshman of the Year honors joining Shieh, Rick Lamb (2010) and Tyler Kertson (2014).
"Matt has shown the conference what he is capable of and still has another level to go," Larkin said.
A grad transfer from UCLA, Muller finds himself as an honorable mention selection for his season-best performance at the WCC Championship where he tallied 8-under 208 to tie for ninth place. Playing in all 12 events, he is averaging 71.80 strokes per round and has finished in the top-20 on five occasions.
The Broncos are poised to be selected for the 2025 NCAA Championship for just the third time in the program's history. They will find out their destination for the regional round on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT at the NCAA Selection Show on Golf Channel.
