SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's tennis team took five of the six singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over San Diego State in Sunday's home opener at the Degheri Tennis Center to cap off the season opening weekend with a pair of victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Santa Clara (2-0) dropped the doubles point to fall behind 1-0 but won five of the six singles matches with the clincher coming from John Kim. He had a straight set win over Finn Willman 6-3, 6-4 on court three to put Santa Clara up 4-2 on the team scoreboard.
- San Diego State (1-4) took the first two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Playing on court three, Brock Anderson and Eugenio Gonzalez downed Ferran Redza and Tiago Boschmans 6-4 to secure the doubles point.
- Valentin Faure got the Broncos on the scoreboard with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Eugenio Gonzalez on court five. Alexander Watanabe Eriksson followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Aleksi Lofman atop the singles lineup.
- Imran Daniel Hazli evened the team score at 2-all downing Luca Lemaitre 6-3, 6-4 before Santa Clara strung three straight wins by Lukas Maskow, Kim and Luca Bluett to close out the match.
