WICHITA, Kansas - Santa Clara women's golf had an outstanding start to the University of Oklahoma Intercollegiate, finishing the opening day in a tie for third at 2-over par. The trio of
Sehee Sim,
Chloe Lam and
Kelsey Kim all shot even par at the par 71 Wichita Country Club to finish the day tied for eighth individually.
The Broncos were tied for the lead at the end of the first round after turning in a 3-under 281, which is tied for the 10th-lowest 18 hole score to par in program history.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sim, a freshman from San Diego, opened the day with a career-low 69 (-2) in the opening round, racking up five birdies to counter a trio of bogeys. She followed with a 2-over 73 to finish the day even.
- Lam also shot under par in the first round at 1-under 70 and was 1-over 72 the next time around to also finish the day at even par.
- Lam had a mostly clean first round with three birdie putts and just a pair of bogeys. It was her 10th career round par, moving her into a tie with Sarah Busey for the seventh-most in program history.
- Not to be outdone, Kim turned in back-to-back rounds at even par of her own. She had two birdies and two bogeys in both rounds.
- Amy Im also had a solid day at 2-over 71-73--144 to finish tied for 18th. She began the day with two birdies on the front nine in the opening round and added two more in the second.
- Proud Sriwongngam rounded out the lineup with rounds of 74 and 76 to finish the day tied for 53rd.
- Santa Clara is tied with Eastern Michigan for third place while host-Oklahoma leads the field of 11 at 7-under 561. Missouri checks in at second just four strokes ahead of the Broncos.
