Women's Soccer Tops Pacific To Remain Perfect in WCC Play

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara women's soccer defeated Pacific 2-1 on Wednesday at Stevens Stadium. The Broncos (7-2-4, 3-0 WCC) outshot the Tigers (1-10-1, 0-2-1 WCC) 22-3, including a 13-2 margin in the second half.

Santa Clara generated sustained pressure in the first half, putting together nine shots and eight corner kicks but not finding the net. Litsy Alcocer and Rylan Cashman each had shots saved by Ava Wells, and Kennedy Schoennauer added three attempts during the half but the game remained scoreless at the break.

The Broncos broke through in the 57th minute, when Schoennauer scored off assists from Alcocer and Lucy Wimsatt for a 1-0 lead. It was Schoennauer's 11th goal of the season, tying her career high. Jacey Martinez added her first collegiate goal from Alcocer in the 63rd minute off a corner kick to make it 2-0, and Santa Clara kept pressing with five shots and a corner from the 70th through 78th minutes. Pacific scored in the 89th minute on a miscue in goal, but the Broncos finished off the 2-1 win.

Schoennauer scored the first goal and led Santa Clara with six shots, putting two on frame. Martinez added the game-winning goal on two shots. Alcocer recorded two assists and put both of her shots on goal. Cashman generated four shots, all on goal.

Kaya Rosa scored Pacific's goal, putting her lone shot on frame and finishing with two points. Ava Wells played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves.

Up next, the Broncos travel to Los Angeles to face LMU on Saturday at 3 p.m.
