SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo fell to No. 13 Fresno State 21-7 Saturday afternoon from Sullivan Aquatic Center. The Bulldogs (9-7, 1-0 WCC) jumped out to an early lead and kept adding on as the Broncos (1-11, 0-1 WCC) couldn't keep pace.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Fresno State stormed out of the game and scored the first six goals of the day before Santa Clara got on the board with a power play goal with 31 seconds left in the first. The Broncos ended the period down 6-1.
• The second quarter was even. The Bulldogs scored the first two of the period to get in front 8-1 but Santa Clara responded with tow goals in a 30-second span made went into the half down 8-3.
• Fresno State kept the pressure on with the first five goals of the third to blow the game open. The Broncos got on the board midway through the third but Fresno State added two more and led 15-4 after three quarters.
• After the Bulldogs scored the first two of the fourth, the two teams traded goals the rest of the way.

NOTABLE:

• Santa Clara got a pair of goals from both Megan Chambliss and Chloe Rizof with Rizof adding two assists as well. Three other Broncos added a goal each and five added an assist as well. Haley Tassell finished the day with three saves.
• Hailey Andress scored four goals to lead all players. Sidney Strickland found the back of the cage three times with Charley Stephens and Katya Aleshina both scoring twice. Alice Johnson led the team with three assists. A total of 14 Bulldogs scored and nine had assists. Katelyn Mobley made 10 saves and Islay Martin-Hill also save time without a save.
