Redza Named WCC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis player Ferran Redza was named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday. The mid-year enrollee came through with a 3-all clincher in his collegiate singles debut on Sunday against Oregon.

Santa Clara trailed 3-1 in the match and knotted it at 3-all on victories by Valentin Faure and Luca Lemaitre, setting up the stage for Redza. The Warwick, England native came through with a 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-2) win over Cameron Burton to complete the 4-3 comeback victory for the Broncos.

Redza was originally not in the lineup but head coach Niall Angus inserted him to the singles No. 6 spot after the Broncos dropped the doubles point to the Ducks.

This is the second week in a row that Santa Clara men's tennis has been recognized with a WCC weekly honor. Luca Bluett and John Kim won the conference Doubles Team of the Week last Tuesday.

Santa Clara next plays at home against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. First serve is at 2 p.m. PT following the women's match.
