REDLANDS, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo fell to Pomona-Pitzer but bounced back with win over Redlands to close a weekend on the road. The Broncos (3-14) dropped their first game of the day to the Sagehens (7-8) 12-10 before blowing out the Bulldogs (2-10) by a final of 21-5.

VS. POMONA-PITZER

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first five minutes of action, but Santa Clara came back with two goals in 30 seconds to make it a 3-2 game at the end of the first.
• The Sagehens got the two goals back to start the second and were on top 5-2 before the Broncos tallied their first score of the period. A penalty shot with 26 seconds remaining sent Pomona-Pitzer into the half on top 7-3.
• Santa Clara cut the deficit down to 7-5 with the first two goals of the half, but the Sagehens responded again with two in a row of their own. Once again the Broncos scored two in a row to get within two goals before allowing one with 47 seconds left that sent them to the fourth down 10-7.
• Twice in the fourth Santa Clara scored a goal only to see Pomona-Pitzer come back with an answer. With 1:02 remaining, the Broncos scored to once again get within two, but that was the last of the scoring for either side.

NOTABLE:

• Megan Chambliss led the Santa Clara offense with three goals. Hailey Romano, Annika Burks, and Evelyn McLaughlin all scored twice with Mikayla Crowe finding the back of the cage once to go with two assists. Four other Broncos picked up one assist apiece. Hayley Tassell finished with 10 saves.
• Pomona-Pitzer got three goals and an assist from both Mia Amberger and Lisbon Zeigler. Paityn Richardson added a pair of goals and four others also scored. Five Sagehens registered one assist. Isabella Dova played three quarters with four saves and Vivienne Wood played one quarter without a save.

AT REDLANDS

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• After the two teams each scored in the first minute, Santa Clara took over. The Broncos scored the final six goals of the first quarter to take a 7-1 lead into the first break.
• The scoring didn't slow down in the second as Santa Clara scored six goals in the period without allowing Redlands on the board. The Broncos took a 13-1 lead into halftime.
• Santa Clara scored the first two of the second half to make it a 14-0 run before the Bulldogs finally scored again. The Broncos would add two more before the end of the third to take a 17-2 lead.
• Redlands scored two of the first three goals of the fourth quarter before Santa Clara came back with three in a row to set a season-high with 21 goals.

NOTABLE:

• Chambliss scored a game-high five goals and also added an assist as Khloe Tarbet found the back of the cage four times. Lia Lakis, McLaughlin, and Crowe all scored twice with six others tallying once. Tassell had three assists to lead the team with Mia Barkett and Julia Ernsting adding two assists each. Tassell made nine saves with F Warneke making five.
• Teagan May scored twice for Redlands with three others scoring once. Aubree Nabors and Brooklyn Green both had two assists. In the cage, Sofia Mather and Natalie Abril both made five saves.
