No. 38 Men's Tennis Pushes Win Streak to Seven with Road Win at No. 61 Boise State

BOISE, Idaho – No. 38 Santa Clara men's tennis and No. 66 Boise State each brought a six-match win steak on Saturday with SCU prevailing 4-1 in a battle of nationally ranked teams.  Santa Clara won their seventh-straight taking the doubles point and three of the four singles matches inside the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Luca Lemaitre for Santa Clara (11-2) and Avery Tallakson for Boise State (14-6) each won their doubles and singles matches.  
  • The match clincher came from Lukas Maskow over Filip Soderqvist 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 in on court four.
  • In doubles, Tallakson teamed up with Carson Baker to down the nation's No. 27 tandem of Luca Bluett/John Kim 6-1, however, Santa Clara took the next two doubles matches to secure the doubles point.  Lemaitre and Tiago Boschmans beat Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist 6-3 on court two to give SCU a 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard.  It was their seventh consecutive doubles win.  
  • In singles,  Luca Bluett beat Idriss Haddouch in straight sets on court six, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 to push the lead out to 2-0.
  • Tallakson momentarily halted the Santa Clara momentum with a three set victory past Alexander Watanabe Eriksson atop the singles lineup 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-0) to close the gap to 2-1. 
  • However, SCU took the next two matches.  Lemaitre handled Aronson 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 followed by Maskow's clincher.  
  • Both Bluett and Maskow extended their singles win streaks to four. 
  • The Santa Clara win puts head coach Niall Angus one win away from tying Sean Burns for the program record for the most wins.  Sean Burns won 130 games while Angus is currently at 129.
