SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo was topped by No. 7 LMU 18-1 in GCC action Sunday at home. The Lions (18-3, 4-0 GCC) got out to the early lead and the Broncos (3-19, 0-4 GCC) were never able to recover.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- LMU got going with the first goal of the day at the 5:17 mark of the first quarter and scored four more times in the first period to take a 5-0 lead after eight minutes.
- The Lions continued their run with all four goals in the second to lead 9-0 at the half.
- Four more goals in the third made it 13-0 at the end of the period.
- Santa Clara got on the board with the first goal of the fourth but LMU followed with the final five of the day.
NOTABLE:
- Sydney Maccabe scored the Santa Clara goal on an assist from Megan Chambliss. Haley Tassell made eight saves in the cage.
- Three Lions tabbed two goals each with 12 others finding the back of the cage once. Sophia DeMattia had a game high three assists with four others adding two each and four picking up one apiece. Three goalies saw time in the cage making a combined five blocks.
