SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's basketball is headed to the postseason. The Broncos were selected for the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) today. They will play at third-seeded Cal in the first round Thursday.
Santa Clara enters the WBIT with an overall record of 24-9 under new head coach Loree Payne. The Broncos' 24 wins, 13 conference wins, and 10 nonconference wins are all program records for a first year head coach. The 13 WCC wins are also tied for the most in program history.
The team has already set program records for points in a season (2,660), points per game (80.6), field goals (927), field goal attempts (2,322), 3-pointers (315), 3-point attempts (1,009), rebounds (1,403), and blocks (176).
The Broncos are fourth nationally in 3-point attempts per game (30.6), sixth in 3-pointers per game (9.5), sixth in turnovers per game (11.4), eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4), ninth in rebounds per game (42.5), 15th in blocks per game (5.3), 16th in scoring offense (80.6), 24th in offensive rebounds per game (14.8), and 25th in turnover margin (5.5).
Ashley Hawkins and Maia Jones were named First Team All-WCC with Ava Schmidt making the honorable mention list and Delainey Miller nabbing All-Freshman Team honors.
This will be Santa Clara's 14th postseason appearance and second in the WBIT. The Broncos went to the inaugural 2024 tournament and won their opening round matchup at home against BYU.
