FULLERTON, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo lost a pair of one goal games on Friday at Claremont Convergence. The Broncos (3-16) lost a heartbreaker 14-13 to the Titans (14-8) and followed it up with another thought loss to the Panthers (5-6) 11-10.

AT CAL STATE FULLERTON

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Cal State Fullerton got on the board twice before Santa Clara found the back of the net near the end of the first quarter. The Titans answered right back and ended the period on top 3-1.
• The Broncos scored to open the second but Fullerton responded with two in a row to stretch the lead out to 5-2. Santa Clara would get within one but the Titans scored the final two of the first half to take a 7-4 lead into the break.
• The two teams traded goals to start the third and the Broncos followed with two in a row to once again cut their deficit to just one. The teams traded goals one more time and the Titans added the last of the quarter to lead 10-6.
• Santa Clara tied things up at 10 with two goals in the first 69 seconds of the fourth quarter. Fullerton answered to get back on top but two in a row for the Broncos game them their first lead of the day at 12-11 with 4:04 remaining. With the game tied at 13, Sofia Moschetti scored on a penalty shot with 48 seconds remaining to give the Titans the win.

NOTABLE:

• Santa Clara was led on offense by Mia Barkett who scored three times and added an assist. Sydney Maccabe also had four points with a team high three assists and one goal and added four steals. Calla Troxel and Chloe Rizof both scored twice with five others tallying one score apiece. Hayley Tassell came up with six blocks in the cage.
• Destiny Hernandez led all scorers with five goals while also adding an assist. Lotte Boxzem scored three times with Moschetti scoring twice and four scoring once. Renske Boxsem had six saves.

AT CHAPMAN

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Chapman scored the first two of the match and added another after Santa Clara got on the board to hold a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
• The teams traded goals before the Broncos scored two in a row to even the score at 4-all. The Panthers were able to score one more in the second and led 5-4 at the half.
• The third quarter saw both teams tally four goals. Chapman scored three of the first four to build a three goal lead before Santa Clara came back with two in a row to get within one. The Panthers scored again with a minute to go but the Broncos answered to make it 9-8 heading to the fourth.
• Santa Clara tied things up in the first minute of the fourth and again with 3:49 to go after Chapman retook the lead. The final goal of the night came on the power play for the Panthers with 3:16 on the clock. Rizof's final shot of the game that would have tied it hit the post.

NOTABLE:

• Rizof scored three times in the day's finale and added an assist as well. Annika Burks and Megan Chambliss both scored twice with Mikayla Crowe adding a goal and three assists. Tassell had nine saves.
• Chapman was led by Kendall Pappan who scored five times with Nina Bastick scoring twice and three others scoring once each. Two Panthers had two assists as well. Zoey Francis had 14 blocks.
