No. 40 Men's Tennis Blanks No. 51 LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 40 Santa Clara men's tennis got back to their winning ways blanking No. 51 LMU 4-0 in a West Coast Conference match on Monday putting the Broncos a step closer to clinching a share of the WCC Championship with one match remaining in the regular season. With the victory against LMU, the Broncos improved to 5-1 in league play, tied with Pepperdine for second place in the conference standings, and one game behind the WCC leader San Diego who sits at 6-0.

Santa Clara (18-3, 5-1 WCC) hosts San Diego (18-4, 6-0 WCC) on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center in the regular season finale. A win over the Toreros would ensure the Broncos with a share of the league crown. A Bronco win and a LMU (16-3, 4-2 WCC) victory over Pepperdine (14-8, 5-1 WCC) Saturday would give the Broncos the number one seed at the WCC Tournament. Pepperdine holds the tiebreak edge over Santa Clara with their head-to-head win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Luca Lemaitre had a hand in the clinchers for the doubles point and the match to give Santa Clara their 14th victory in the last 15 matches.
Lemaitre teamed up with Tiago Boschmans on court two to defeat Cesar Cruz and Emil Kindhult 6-2 to claim the doubles point.
The Broncos kept the momentum into singles play. First, John Kim made quick work of Emil Kindhult dropping just one game to win 6-0, 6-1 on court three to put the Broncos up 2-0.
Valentin Faure followed next beating Kuba Hrynkiewicz 6-4, 6-1 on court five.
Lemaitre got his second clincher of the day against Cruz, with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph on court two. It was Lemaitre's seventh straight singles victory, second behind Maskow's team-leading eight match win streak.
