SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis players Luca Lemaitre and Ferran Redza garnered West Coast Conference weekly recognitions on Tuesday after helping the Broncos claim a share of their first ever WCC regular season championship.  Lemaitre was named Singles Player of the Week while Redza took the Freshman Player of the Week honors.  

This past week, Lemaitre won a pair of match clinchers on court two against opponents from No. 51 LMU and No. 16 San Diego.  His win against Stian Klaassen of San Diego secured Santa Clara's co-championship.  With the Broncos ahead 3-2, Lemaitre came back from a set down to defeat Klaassen 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 for his eighth straight singles victory. 

Earlier in the week, the Bronco junior beat LMU's Cesar Cruz in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to close out Santa Clara's 4-0 shutout victory.

Redza won one doubles match in the win against No. 51 LMU and one singles match in the win over No. 16 San Diego.  Paired with Valentin Faure at doubles court three, the tandem defeated LMU's Cyrus Ahmad and Darius Tamaddon 6-2 for the first doubles win.  The Broncos would go on to take the doubles point and blank LMU 4-0. 

The Warwick, England native was inserted into the singles lineup against No. 16 San Diego in the sixth spot for just his fourth start this dual match season.  The freshman came through with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 victory over Luc Wieland to put SCU up 2-1 in a match they would go on to win 4-2.

This is the second time Lemaitre has been named WCC Singles Player of the Week, having first won it during his freshman season in the spring of 2024. 
For Redza, this is his second WCC Freshman of the Week award.  He also got the WCC Doubles Team of the Week honors along with Faure earlier in the season.  

Santa Clara next plays Saint Mary's in the opening round of the WCC Tournament on Thursday at noon PT.
