Women's Soccer Earns Draw With Oregon

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara women's soccer and Oregon ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at Stevens Stadium. The Broncos (1-0-2) managed 15 shots, with five on target, while the Ducks (2-0-1) matched with 15 shots and five on goal.

Santa Clara started the first half assertively, with Kennedy Schoennauer successfully converting a penalty kick in the third minute after being taken down in the box, giving Santa Clara an early lead. Oregon managed to equalize with a goal by Carly Cormack, assisted by Shiloh Baird, in the 22nd minute.

The Broncos put offensive pressure on the Ducks in the second half, highlighted by a series of shots starting with Schoennauer in the 56th minute. Despite several attempts on goal, including efforts by Litsy Alcocer and Adee Goulden, each shot was either saved by Oregon's goalkeeper, Gray Willson, or went off target.

Defensively, Ally Harrison made a key save off a shot from Shiloh Baird in the 84th minute.

Schoennauer notched the lone goal and led Santa Clara with six shots, including two on target. Harrison made four saves in net. Jacey Martinez contributed offensively with three shots, one of which was on goal. Izzy DeBuyl added to the team's efforts with two shots taken and played a key role on the back line, stopping several potential attacks with nice tackles in the box.

Cormack attempted three shots to go along with the goal and Baird had three shots, two of which were on target. In the midfield, Cloe Chase was active with three shots, one on goal, adding depth to Oregon's attack. Willson registered four saves to maintain the Ducks' defensive stance.

Santa Clara will host Pitt on Sunday at noon.

  • Schoennauer has scored in each of the team's first three games. She is the first Bronco to accomplish the feat since Kelsey Turnbow in 2021.
