SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara women's soccer secured a 1-0 victory over UC Davis on Thursday at Stevens Stadium. The win gave head coach Jerry Smith 571 for his career, putting him in second place all-time among Division I women's soccer head coaches.
The Broncos' (2-0-3) defense held the Aggies (1-3) to just two shots on goal, while their own offense managed five shots on target.
Santa Clara opened the match by taking control early, with Lexie Douglass scoring the half's only goal in the 9th minute, assisted by Adee Goulden and Addie Whitehouse. Santa Clara maintained offensive pressure with multiple attempts, including shots from Kennedy Schoennauer and Jacey Martinez. The half concluded with Santa Clara leading 1-0.
The Broncos applied consistent pressure throughout the second half, keeping UC Davis on the defensive. Schoennauer led the offensive charge with multiple shots on target, though each was thwarted by UC Davis goalkeeper Piper Wilkison. Despite 11 corner kicks and 18 shots, Santa Clara was unable to extend its lead.
Harrison recorded a shutout with two saves. Whitehouse contributed with one assist and led the team with three shots, placing one on goal. Schoennauer fired five shots, with three of those being on target.
Wilkison stood out for the Aggies with four saves. On the offensive front, Lisette Gregoris led the team with three shots, putting one on target. Lakelee Perkins also contributed with a shot on goal. Sydney Bushman added pressure with two shots, although none found the target.
Santa Clara will take to the field at home against No. 17 UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m.
