ONTARIO - Santa Clara men's golf saw a 10-stroke improvement in the second round of the 2026 Canadian Collegiate Invitational, carding a collective 4-under 270 Monday morning at the par 71 Oviinbyrd Golf Course. The Broncos enter Tuesday's final round in fourth place at 2-over 570 and just two strokes behind Mississippi State for third. Upperclassmen
Emil Nielsen and
J.P. Odland each had outstanding second-round showings and enter the final round tied for fifth place at 4-under 138.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Odland shot a team-low 4-under 67, tied for the second-lowest round of the day by anyone in the field of 73 players. His day included an eagle on the par-5 No. 18 hole and four birdies to counter a pair of bogeys.
- Nielsen turned in an eagle putt of his own, doing so on the par-4 No. 10 hole as part of a 3-under 68. He logged six birdies to counter three bogeys and one double bogey for the round.
- Odland and Nielsen will enter the final round just three strokes behind New Mexico teammates Johnnie Clark and Wyatt Provence for the lead of 7-under 135.
- Matt Robles improved on his opening-round 74 with a 1-over 72 on Tuesday to tie for 20th.
- Freshman Ryan Xie shot his second-consecutive 75 (+4) and is tied for 41st while fellow newcomer Jared Abercrombie saw an eight-stroke improvement from an 81 to a 2-over 73. Jack Hayden, playing as an individual, also saw a vast improvement on the day carding a 1-under 70 after opening the tournament plus-18.
- New Mexico put some distance between themselves and second-place Notre Dame and enter the final round with a six-stroke advantage at 15-under 553.
