ONTARIO - Santa Clara men's golf junior
Emil Nielsen finished runner-up at the 2026 Canadian Collegiate Invitational after shooting 1-under 70 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 5-under 208. It is the best finish of his collegiate career and his second top-five outing in as many weeks. As a team, the Broncos tied for the low round of the day at 10-over par to secure a third-place finish - their second top-three outing of the young season.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nielsen was one of just two players among the field of 83 to shoot under par in Tuesday's round at the par 71 Oviinbyrd Golf Course. The Wellesley, Mass., product began the day 4-over 39 on the front nine before piecing together an outstanding back nine over 5-under 31 that included three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 13 hole. He entered the final hole tied for second and two shots behind New Mexico's Johnnie Clark, and rolled in a clutch birdie on the 18th green to take sole possession of second place. Clark made par on the same hole to clinch medalist honors by one stroke.
- This is Nielsen's second top-five finish of the young fall season and his third-career top-five finish at the collegiate level.
- Senior J.P. Odland also secured a top-10 finish after closing out his tournament with a 3-over 74 final round. The Tiburon, Calif., product finished the event in seventh place at 1-under 212 and was one of just seven players in the field to finish under par for the event.
- Odland now has 12 top 10 and 17 top 20 finishes for his career, and ranks fourth and fifth, respectively, in program history in those categories.
- Matt Robles finished just outside the top 20 with a tie for 23rd at 8-over 221 while freshman Ryan Xie shot a 75 for the third-consecutive round to tie for 33rd at 12-over 225.
- Jared Abercrombie and Jack Hayden, playing as an individual, tied each other for 60th at 21-over 234. Hayden shot a 74 in the final round to climb 12 spots in the final standings.
- The Broncos' 10-over total tied with champion New Mexico and Rutgers for the lowest of the day. SCU finished the event 12-over 864, besting Mississippi State by seven strokes and finishing seven strokes behind runner-up Notre Dame.
