ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Santa Clara men's golf had a great start to the 2026 William H. Tucker Invitational, carding 8-under 208 in Friday's opening round at the Championship Golf Course to finish the round in fifth place. The Broncos were faring even better in the second round, moving up to a tie for second before lightning in the area put an end to play for the day. The second round will resume tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. PT with the third and final round commencing immediately after.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior J.P. Odland had an outstanding start individually, carding 7-under 65 to finish the first round in sole possession of second place. He notched a whopping nine birdies, including three-straight on Nos. 13-15.
- Emil Nielsen's fantastic start to the season continued on with the junior shooting 6-under 66 to finish the round tied for third. He logged five birdies on the front and two more on the back to counter just one bogey for the round.
- Nielsen has now shot under par in all seven rounds to open the fall season.
- Freshman Ryan Xie shot even par to finish the round tied for 38th.
- Matt Robles (+5) and Max Margolis (+7) tied for 80th and 86th, respectively.
- Host-New Mexico led the field at 13-under 275 followed by San Diego State (277), Long Beach State (278) and BYU (278).
