CUMMINS ON McCONNELL: "Heading into the season, Kellen has a great chance to start for us in our regular rotation. He is also a very good position player and can play in the infield. He has a very good arm and is another of a talented freshmen class of pitchers on our squad." HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: A 2000 graduate of Capistrano Valley High School in Mission, Viejo, Calif....played for Coach Bob Zamora and Rich "Goose" Awender...team won South Coast League and CIF Southern Section titles as a senior...twice named first-team all-South Coast League...led Orange County and set school record with six saves...second on school's career home run list...four-year member of the National Honor Society. PERSONAL DATA: Son of Scott and Kristy McConnell...both parents attended Southern California...father is an attorney...born April 5, 1982 in Mission Viejo, Calif....enjoys all sports, video games and going to the beach...plans to major in business.
