CUMMINS ON QUEEN: "Matt has been a very solid player since he arrived at Santa Clara. He is one of the elder statesmen on the team. We have moved him to first base to help solidify the infield. He is a quality person as well as a good player. I think he will increase his production this year. He is an everyday player for us who we can count on." AS A JUNIOR IN 2000: An honorable mention all-WCC selection...appeared in and started 55 games...named WCC Player of the Week on Feb. 29 following a 10-for-22 performance in five games at the UNLV tournament...recorded seven RBI in the five games...also recorded 14 putouts and five assists for the week...registered two doubles and a triple against Michigan State in the final game of the event...third on the team in RBI with 37...213 plate appearances was third on the team...hit safely in 11 of the first 13 games of the season...enjoyed a 10-game hitting streak late in the season...went 6-for-12 from the plate with three RBI and seven runs scored in late-season USF series...top single-game performance was a 4-for-5 effort with two doubles against the Dons...registered 17 multi-hit games...struck-out just twice in first 11 games of the season...batted .431 with runners in scoring position. AS A SOPHOMORE IN 1999: Second team All-WCC selection following a season in which he hit .333 while leading the team with eight home runs and 39 RBI...also had eight doubles and sported a club-high .490 slugging percentage...hit .357 with four homers and 18 RBI in 27 conference games...recorded 17 multi-hit games, including five three-hit games and three four-hit efforts...hit safely in seven straight games from Feb. 19-28, going 15-for-29 (.517) with 11 RBI...went 8-for-16 (.500) with two homers and seven RBI during a four-game sweep of Oregon State from Feb. 26-28...blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning on Apr. 20 against San Jose State, snapping a 2-2 tie and giving the Broncos a 3-2 victory...went 6-for-7 with three home runs and five RBI in the Portland doubleheader on May 8...went 4-for-4 in the nightcap...was 28-for-75 (.373) in his last 19 contests...hit at a .480 clip (12-for-25) with three homers and seven RBI over his last six games.
