Entering his eighth season at Santa Clara University in 2013-14,Sam Scholl was promoted to Associate Coach in Sept of 2013.
Prior to that, Scholl helped the Broncos post 24+ victories forthe second time in three years in 2012-13. Collecting a 26-12record, the Broncos won the College Basketball Invitationalpost-season tournament after winning the CollegeInsider.comTournament in 2011.
The Broncos final RPI was No. 68 and record-wise, they claimedthe biggest turnaround in Division I basketball in 2013-14. The 26 wins were just one shy of the school record set by the1968-69 team who collected 27 wins.
Santa Clara won 26 games in 2012-13 after winning 21 regularseason games for the first time in almost 20 years on the Missioncampus. Scholl has been essential to the Broncos run, helpingcoach two first-team All-WCC members in 2013 in Marc Trasolini andKevin Foster, the second-all-time leading scorer in West CoastConference history. In addition to their success on thecourt, all five seniors graduated in June, 2013 as well.
All told the Broncos combined to break 22 school and WCC recordsin 2012-13. Foster broke the all-time WCC record for threesmade, finishing tied for fourth in Division I history with 431. In addition to winning the CBI and finishing fourth in theWCC, the Broncos broke eight individual career records and fiveindividual season records. As a team the Broncos broke eightseason records as well. They also led the West CoastConference in two team categories and two individual categoriesoverall and two team categories and three individual categories inleague games.
Scholl helped coach the Broncos to one of their most successfulseasons in 2010-11. The Broncos finished the season with 24wins – the second most in school history – and theCollegeInsider.com Post-Season Tournament Championship. Foster was named to the All-WCC First Team and an NABCAll-District honoree; Evan Roquemore was named to the FreshmanAll-WCC Team and Troy Payne was named the WCC Defensive Player ofthe Year.

The Broncos also set eight team records, seven individual seasonrecords, two individual career records and four freshman individualrecords in 2010-11. Foster, who averaged a WCC-leading 20.2ppg in 2010-11, was named by CollegeInsider.com to the Mid-MajorAll-America Team and the WCC’s Most Valuable Player. His 140three’s were No. 1 nationally and No. 9 all-time in the NCAA.Both Foster and Trasolini scored their 1000th point thisseason. All four seniors – Ben Dowdell, Troy Payne,Nate Mensah and Michael Santos – graduated in June 2011.
Santa Clara head coach Kerry Keating tapped former University ofSan Diego standout Scholl to join his staff as an assistant coachon April 9, 2007.
Scholl worked with Keating and his staff to recruit anotherfantastic class with all five newcomers expected to play vitalrolls in 2009-10. Scholl spent the seven seasons as an assistantcoach at the University of San Diego, his alma mater, on the staffof former Torero head coach Brad Holland.

At USD, Scholl worked closely with the guards, in addition tohis roles with recruiting, scouting, academic support and SanDiego's Elite Camp. He also played an integral role in therecruitment of 16 Torero players, including four first-team All-WCCperformers, one WCC Newcomer of the Year, and a pair of WCCAll-Freshman Team players. The Torero's advanced to the NCAATournament in 2003. The Toreros' lone senior on the team's 20-9squad from 1999-2000, Scholl played guard for San Diego for twoseasons. Prior to USD, he played two seasons at Tacoma CommunityCollege in Tacoma, Wash.
A native of Gig Harbor, Wash., Scholl completed hisundergraduate degree in Sociology at the University of San Diego in2001. A 1996 Gig Harbor High School graduate, Scholl was the pointguard on the 1996 2A Washington State championship team.
Scholl is married to the former Heather Brown and they have twochildren, Riley Marie Scholl, born January 9, 2008 and Reese Jaden,born April 30, 2010.
