SANTA CLARA, Calif. -
Santa Clara University men's basketball player Danny Pariseau was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week today for his strong performances over the weekend in wins against Portland and Gonzaga. Pariseau becomes the second straight player to earn the honor as Sean Denison was recognized last week. Pariseau's play helped the Broncos take over sole possession of first place in the WCC at 9-2 with just three games remaining in the regular season. SCU's win over Gonzaga snapped the Zags 50-game home winning streak and also snapped the Broncos' 13-game losing streak to Gonzaga.
Pariseau was instrumental in guiding the Broncos to their wins over the Pilots and the Bulldogs, averaging 14.0 points per game, while handing out 5.5 assists per game. The 5-10 guard was extremely efficient from the field, connecting on 66.7 percent of his shots from the field (10-for-15), including 57.1 percent from beyond the arc, while committing just three turnovers in 59 minutes of action.
Pariseau opened the week by scoring 14 points and handing out five assists in Santa Clara's 76-53 win at Portland. He connected on 6-of-9 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from the three-point line, and added two steals.
The Spokane, WA native enjoyed an outstanding homecoming in the Broncos' 84-73 win at Gonzaga, tossing in 14 points and distributing six assists. Pariseau made big play after big play for the Broncos to thwart Gonzaga's furious second half comeback. The transfer from Eastern Washington scored seven of his 14 points in the final six minutes of the game and assisted on two crucial baskets, including setting up Scott Dougherty's three-pointer that pushed the Broncos' lead to double digits with two minutes remaining.
The weekly honor is the first WCC Player of the Week award for Pariseau and the second by a Santa Clara player this season.
Santa Clara takes on San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Leavey Center. The Senior Night game tips off at 7:00 p.m. PT. The game will also mark the final home game for head coach Dick Davey, who announced his retirement following the season on Feb. 1.
