No. 15 Broncos Fall 13-9 to No. 8 UCSD

Nov. 8, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 15 Santa Clara men's water polo team fell 13-9 to conference rival No. 8 UC San Diego. Junior Mike Sorgenfrei had a standout game, scoring two goals, posting an assist and drawing two kick outs.

"Mike had a great game for us," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "He worked hard to create offensive opportunities, unfortunately UCSD was the better team today and we were not able to get a scoring advantage and the win."

In the cage, freshman Michael Wishart made his 25th straight start and tallied 12 blocks, notched two assists and had one steal. Junior Liam Farrell assisted on three Bronco scores and posted a steal, while redshirt junior Jack Wall converted three shots for goals and had an assist. Mitchell Klipa had three steals and a kick out drawn at the 2-meter defender, and sophomore Stephen Hobbs added a solo goal for SCU.

This afternoon's contest was SCU's fifth straight loss. The Broncos fall to 14-11 overall, 8-4 WWPA, while the Tritons improve to 17-8 overall, 5-3 WWPA. Santa Clara looks to bounce back versus conference foe No. 11 UC Davis on Saturday, Nov. 15 at noon. Before SCU returns to conference play, they will host the Sullivan Aquatic Center pool dedication and their annual Alumni Game on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m.
