The host team outshot Santa Clara 17-6 while putting six on frame to the Bronco's four. Santa Clara put the first one in the back of the net in the 16th minute when Carlos Delgadillo found Max Ornstil open in the middle of the box. Ornstil tallied his second goal of the year when he beat the LMU keeper with his shot to the left corner. Glenn Vass was also awarded an assist on the early first half goal.

Ornstil had two other shots on goal while Brennan Castro, Edson Cardona, Jared Hegardt, and Delgadillo added to the Bronco attack. Kendall McIntosh held down the defense with five saves over 110 minutes in the net.

Santa Clara went into the half leading LMU 1-0, but the Lions fought hard on their home turf. Craig Nitti was able to convert a penalty kick in the 81st minute to tie the match.

Santa Clara attempted two shots in the overtime periods while LMU took four shots. The defense proved solid on both sides and the match ended in a 1-1 draw after two overtime periods.
