Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Santa Clara men's soccer recorded its first shutout of the season against Gonzaga, playing to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Luger Field.
"I was pleased with the defensive side as well as the ball movement and attacking play but the game is defined by goals and we needed to score to earn the victory," said head coach Cameron Rast.
The Broncos (2-12-1, 2-2-1 WCC) had golden opportunities to score, twice hitting the woodwork, one each in the half.
"Those are the looks you play for. I told the team, anytime you play on Sunday, physically you have to reach down and grind. It's a big challenge to travel and come back and be sharp," said head coach Cameron Rast, coming off a Friday night road game against Portland.
Santa Clara came out sharp, at one point, holding a 10-4 advantage in shots but were outshot 12-3 the rest of the way. Despite being under attack, Santa Clara goalkeeper
Dakota Havlick and the backline helped shut out Gonzaga (6-7-2, 0-4-2 WCC).
Havlick was credited with four saves and recorded his first clean sheet of the season. Over the weekend, the Broncos gave up a single goal in 200 minutes of play.
