LOS GATOS, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball dropped its 2017 regular season finale to San José State Thursday afternoon at Los Gatos High School. The Broncos picked up a victory from the No. 2 pairing of Kirsten Mead/Jensen Cunningham in a match that featured a trio of three-set duals.
Mead and Cunningham played a tight first two sets against Nandyala Gama/Julie Sam, dropping the first 21-19 before rallying to win the second by the same score. The junior tandem for the Broncos (1-10) ran away with the third set 15-7 to win for the second day in a row and third time in their last five tries overall.
Nikki Hess/Allison Kantor played three sets against Allison Meehan/Lyndi Scholl at No. 1 that were decided by three points or fewer. Meehan and Scholl came back from a 21-18 first-frame defeat to win the next two 21-19, 16-14. The Spartans (7-8) opened the day with a three set win by Julia Golbeck/Kaitlynn Zdorik at No. 5 over Ngozi Nwabuzoh/Erin Reineking.
