SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis finished its weekend play with another strong performance, defeating the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz, 7-0.  The Broncos finished the weekend with a clean sweep, winning all three matches by a 7-0 score.   

 

In doubles play, the Broncos (4-2) clinched the point on wins by Kamran Khan and Connor Garnett over Ryan Gee/Chad Le Duff, 6-1, on court 3 and Jesus Tapiador Barajas and Vasileios Iliopoulos over A.J. Flora and Magnus/Ibh, 6-2, on court 2.  The Broncos No.1 pairing of Andrew Gu and Robert Seby came back to win, 7-5, after being down love-30 and 4-5 to Chad Stone/Ryan Dugan.  

 

Santa Clara quickly clinched the match win in singles play with No. 6 Sebastien Mathieu, No. 3 Connor Garnett and No. 4 Vasileios Iliopoulos, all winning in straight sets.  

 

No. 5 Kamran Khan needed a second set tie breaker but eventually beat Ryan Dugan in straight sets.  

 

Robert Seby and Jesus Tapiador Barajas moved up a spot from their normal lineup spot with No. 1 Andrew Gu sitting out the singles match.  Playing in Gu's customary spot, Seby won in straight sets 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 over Chad Stone and Barajas, playing on court 2, needed three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 to defeat Chad Le Duff. 

 

The Broncos will get a break in their schedule and play New Mexico at home on Sunday, February 11 at 11 a.m. PT.
