STOCKTON, Calif. –
Andrew Gu earned a hard fought three-set victory to complete the Santa Clara men's tennis 4-3 comeback win over Pacific on Saturday to help the Broncos get its first West Coast Conference victory.
Santa Clara (10-3, 1-1 WCC) extended its win streak to six matches and more importantly, picked up a conference win on the road.
After
Vasileios Iliopoulos evened the match with a straight set triumph over Akram El Sallaly on court four to even the match at 3-all, the deciding point came down between the number one players, Gu and Ross Watson.
Gu and Watson split the first two sets but then the Bronco senior asserted himself in the third set to take the match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 igniting a celebration among his teammates who rushed the court.
The Broncos played catch up throughout the match when it lost the doubles point and
Jesus Tapiador Barajas had to withdraw on court two, to trail 2-0.
On court six, Neuhaus took care of Johnathan Lieu, 6-2, 6-2 and on court five, Seby beat Josep Southcombe, 6-1, 6-2. For Seby, it was his 10th straight singles win this dual match season.
Just as the Broncos tied things up, the Tigers took the upper hand to go up 3-2 with a win on court three by Tadiwa Chnamo over
Connor Garnett, 6-3, 7-6, before the final SCU comeback on courts four and one by Iliopoulos and Gu.

Santa Clara returns to the Degheri Tennis Center to host Portland and Gonzaga next weekend in a key conference tilt. The Broncos face the Pilots on Friday and the Bulldogs on Saturday. First serve for both matches are at 11 a.m.
