Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara volleyball dominated play from the opening serve en route to a 25-19, 25-18, 25-9 sweep of San Francisco on Saturday, picking up its first West Coast Conference win of the season.
Santa Clara (5-11, 1-5) trailed just once in the match, one which was tied on only three occasions.
Julia Sangiacomo and Sophia Tulino paced Santa Clara with nine kills each while Michelle Shaffer added eight as the Broncos outhit the Dons .296 to .134.
Nive Tuileta recorded 25 assists and Kat Georgiadis led the defensive effort with 10 digs, a match-high.
Shyia Richardson had 10 kills for the Dons but also committed six of the 17 attack errors for San Francisco (0-14, 0-6).
Santa Clara dominated the service game, posting a season-high tying 12 aces to one for the Dons.
The Broncos led from start to finish in the opening stanza, sprinting to a 5-0 lead. Sangiacomo had four of her kills in the set.
In the second set, San Francisco pulled within 15-14, but Santa Clara scored six of the next eight with the Dons committed four errors in the flurry. Santa Clara closed out the set with a 10-4 run.
SCU had another strong finish in the final set with Sangiacomo getting credited with four kills during a 12-1 run to wrap up the match.
NOTES
- Santa Clara (12) posted double-digit service aces for the sixth match this season. It also posted a season-best 12 against South Carolina (Sept. 10) and Auburn (Sept. 12).
- In addition to eight kills, Michelle Shaffer had nine digs. It marked her eighth match of the season with nine or more.
- Santa Clara now leads the all-time series, 70-17.
