Offense Leads No. 14 Women's Soccer to Win at Pacific

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Another big performance from the offense lifted No. 14 Santa Clara women's soccer to a 5-1 win over Pacific on the road Saturday afternoon. After applying pressure early, the levee broke midway through the first half and continued throughout the 90 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mailin Orozco got the scoring going in the 26th when Addie Whitehouse rolled a pass to her that the goalkeeper dove for but missed and Orozco was able to tap it into the empty net.
  • Two minutes later Colby Barnett got in on the action by dribbling down the field and hitting a left-footed shot inside the right post from a couple yards inside the top of the box.
  • In what's becoming a common theme, Farrah Walters put her stamp on the game next. In the 56th, Whitehouse crossed a ball on the ground to Walters who took a touch and beat the keeper. In the 71st, Lia Henkelmann, playing her first game of the year due to injury, found Walters on a run and she held off a defender before finishing far post.
  • A pretty pass off a free kick by Alex Klos found the head of Jordyn Crosby who rounded out the Santa Clara (10-2-2, 3-0 WCC) scoring in the 87th.
  • Pacific (7-7-1, 1-3 WCC) got on the board in the 77th. Aniela Jensen passed to Mira Scarsella who was one-on-one with the keeper and slotted it in.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • The Broncos outshot the Tigers 19-7 and 13-3 in shots on goal. They also drew an impressive 13 corner kicks while surrendering just one.
  • Marlee Nicolos made two saves in 70 minutes of action.
  • Santa Clara has now outscored Pacific 11-1 in two matches this season. The Broncos took a nonconference match 6-0 at home on September 24. Walters had a hat trick in that game, giving her five this year against the Tigers. It was also her fourth multi-goal game this season and second in a row.
  • Over the last four matches, Santa Clara has scored 16 goals.
  • The Broncos have double-digit wins for the 36th time in Jerry Smith's 37 seasons leading the team.
