SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second time this season, Santa Clara men's soccer goalkeeper
Jack Stoecker has been named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his nine-save shutout effort in the Broncos 2-0 victory over LMU on Saturday.
With the win, Santa Clara improved to 3-0-0 in conference play and moved into sole position atop the league standings, three points clear of both Portland, who the Broncos beat earlier in the year, and San Diego.
Stoecker turned away two shots in the opening half and seven in the back half to record his second-straight clean sheet and third overall this season. His nine saves were a season-high.
The 6-foot-6 junior has a 4-0-1 record on the season with a .923 save percentage and 0.40 goals-against-average.
This is the third overall honor for Stoecker having
last won it two weeks ago. He also garnered the league recognition in 2021 after making 11 saves in the regular season finale against LMU in a scoreless draw in double overtime.
The Broncos next play San Francisco at home on Wednesday.
