Early Goal Paces No. 16 Women's Soccer in Win at Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. – An early goal set the tone as No. 16 Santa Clara women's soccer went on the road and beat Saint Mary's 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Up 1-0 at the half, the Broncos scored three times on the Gaels in the final 45 minutes to put things away.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The scoring got started right away for Santa Clara on a beautiful shot from outside the box by Colby Barnett that she tucked inside the far post and the crossbar just 67 seconds into the match.
  • Farrah Walters put her stamp on the game early in the second half. In the span of two minutes, Walters scored twice. First in the 47th she intercepted a bad pass inside midfield and went all the way to score. Then, in the 49th, Makoto Nezu found Colby Barnett who used a back heel pass to find Walters for a finish in the top left of the net.
  • Holly Furphy got in on the action in the 71st. Mailin Orozco sent a short pass to Barnett who one-timed it to Furphy and her shot went inside the near post.
