Big Fourth Gives Women's Basketball Win Over Boise State

LAS VEGAS – A big fourth quarter lifted Santa Clara women's basketball to their fifth straight win, a 62-52 win over Boise State at the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic. Boise State started a run late in the first quarter to take the lead until the fourth when Santa Clara took control to come away with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Santa Clara (6-1) found themselves down five with 8:21 left in regulation but a 9-0 run followed that put them on top for good. Tess Heal scored six of the points with Olivia Pollerd's 3-pointer also mixed in. The 9-0 run was the beginning of a 21-6 run to end the game with Santa Clara winning the fourth quarter 23-9.
  • A triple by Natalie Pasco stretched Boise State's (5-1) lead to double-figures at the 6:12 mark in the third but Santa Clara came back with seven in a row to keep within striking distance.
  • A 9-0 run during the first and second quarters for Boise State turned Santa Clara's four-point lead into an 18-13 deficit early in the second.
  • It was a tough second quarter for Santa Clara as they shot just 3-for-15 from the floor. At one point in the opening half, they missed 10 shots in a row. Boise State didn't pull away, however, making just two of their final 10 shots of the first half.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Both teams had a rough half shooting the ball and finished with similar numbers from the floor. Santa Clara shot 36.1-percent overall despite going 24.1-percent in the first half, including 1-of-9 from downtown. Boise State shot 34.6-percent but were at just 29.6-percent in the second half. Santa Clara was 5-of-10 from deep in the second half with Boise State going 3-of-7 in the first half.
  • Santa Clara had 17 assists on 22 made field goals.
  • Pollerd led all scorers with 18 points and connected on four 3-pointers while grabbing seven rebounds. Both Heal and Marya Hudgins just missed double-doubles. Heal scored 15 with nine assists and Hudgins scored 10 with eight boards.
