LAS VEGAS – Under hot and humid conditions in the Las Vegas desert that included a lighting delay, Santa Clara men's soccer got the desired start against UNLV getting on the board first but conceded two goals to fall 2-1 at Johann Memorial Field on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Joshua Dabora opened up the scoring in the 27th minute heading in a beautifully delivered free kick from Yoni Aidlberg from approximately 30 yards out to give Santa Clara (0-2) a 1-0 lead. It was Dabora's first goal and Aidlberg's second assist of the season.
- In the 37th minute, UNLV (1-1) leveled the match on a give-and-go play between Brophy Howard and Tyler Ware. Howard had a one-on-one opportunity with Broncos goalkeeper Felix Schaefer before slotting the ball low past the on rushing Schaefer.
- The game was knotted at 1-all at intermission.
- UNLV took a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute on a set piece goal by Theo Minard. Nico Lopez delivered the free kick from the right side to the far post that Minard headed in what turned out to be the game-winner.

POSTMATCH COMMENTS:
Head Coach Cam Rast
"We got off to a good start when Josh headed in our first goal. It was good service by Yoni and Josh did a great job running inside the goalkeeper, cut in front of him and hammered in the ball as it was really well done. Unfortunately, when we took the first goal from UNLV we lost our momentum and confidence. That seemed to give them a jump as they put pressure on us and we didn't deal with it well. UNLV is a really good team defensively and they locked up the middle of the field with so many players. And the second goal they scored was a well executed play by them. We have got some work to do for sure."
