Draw at Cal Poly Ends Week for No. 8 Women's Soccer

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – A wild second half led No. 8 Santa Clara women's soccer to a 1-1 draw at Cal Poly on Sunday. Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Broncos found themselves down a player in the 65th after a red card but the Mustangs drew one of their own four minutes later. Santa Clara responded with the game-tying goal within two minutes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Cal Poly (1-3-2) took the lead in the 21st minute on a perfect shot from Sophia Moness from 20-yards out that just got under the cross bar.
  • In the 65th, Rachel Bastone was shown a red for denying a goal scoring chance.
  • Just 64 seconds later, Olivia Ortiz picked up a yellow and then three minutes after, picked up her second and was sent off with a red of her own in the 69th.
  • The Broncos (6-0-2) earned a corner 71st and Sally Menti found the head of Leah O'Brien for her first of the year to tie the score.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara put three of its seven shots on target and drew four corners in the match.
  • Kylie Foutch picked up four saves with Mackenzie Samuel making two for Cal Poly.
