PROVO, Utah - A new school record for both team and individual play? All in a day's work for Santa Clara women's golf. The Broncos were electric from start to finish in Monday's second round of the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational as three players turned in rounds under par as part of an outstanding 12-under 276 tally, shattering the record for the lowest 18-hole score in program history. Individually,
Inara Sharma was equally electrifying as she carded a 5-under 67, tying for the lowest individual round in program history.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Things could not have gone much better for the Broncos on Monday. After posting an even-par in round one, Santa Clara shot up the leader board to finish the second round in third at 12-under 546.
- Sharma's career day included a whopping four birdies as part of a bogey-free back nine. She tallied five total birdies for the day to offset a lone bogey on the par-8 No. 5.
- Audrey Brust, who holds the program's 18-hole record alongside Sharma, also played fantastic with a 4-under 68 second round that included a pair of eagles on par 5s. She is currently in fifth overall at 6-under 70-68--138.
- Sharma made a major move in the individual standings, vaulting 37 spots to tie for 10th at 3-under 74-67--141.
- Newcomer Meva Schmit was also in the 60s at 3-under 69 for the round. She turned in a total of five birdies herself for the day and jumped 21 spots in the standings to tie for 14th at 2-under 73-69--142.
- Fellow newcomer Kesley Kim's score also counted toward's the Broncos record-breaking round, as she turned in an even par-72, and tallied the first eagle of her young career on the par-5 No. 10. The freshman is currently tied for 29th at 1-over 73-72--145.
- Patricia Garre Munoz rounded the Santa Clara quintet with a 3-over 75 to tie for 40th at 3-over 72-75--147.
- Santa Clara is in third as a team heading into the final round. Grand Canyon holds the top spot at 17-under 289-270--559 with Fresno State in second just three shots ahead of the Broncos at 15-under 561. The Bulldogs' Katelyn Lehigh has the individual lead at 12-under 67-65--132.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
- The Broncos' two day total of 12-under 546 is also a school record for 36 holes.
- Santa Clara's previous 18-hole record was an 8-under 280 in the second round of the 2018 UC Irvine Invitational.
- Santa Clara tallied a whopping 21 sub-par holes on the day, including three eagles.
