Men's Golf Has Solid Opening Day At Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Santa Clara men's golf put up some solid numbers in their first action of the new season, turning in a 5-under 279 as a team to tie for eighth in a great 15-team field after the opening round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

The Broncos saw four of their five players turn in sub-par rounds on the par-71 course.
Nolan Forsman had the top individual round of the day for Santa Clara, tying for 26th at 2-under 69. He posted five birdies in the round.
Calder Overfelt, Joey Hayden and J.P. Odland each carded a 1-under 70 to tie for 32nd while Jeffrey Kwak was 2-over 73 to tie for 58th.
Auburn leads the field after an impressive 24-under 260 while San Diego State's Justin Hastings carded a 9-under 62 to lay claim to the individual lead.
The Broncos are tied with Colorado and Little Rock for eighth and just five shots back from the top five.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:

The Broncos turned in a total of 17 birdies as a team.
J.P. Odland and Jeffrey Kwak made their collegiate debuts.

MAUI JIM INDIVIDUAL AT LEGEND TRAIL

Five Santa Clara individuals also played in the Maui Jim Individual at Legend Trail.
Newcomers Muzzy Donohue (1-over 73) and Will Celiberti (2-over 74) is tied for 21st and 25th, respectively.
Jolo Magcalayo is tied for 28th at 3-over 75 while Eugenio Bernardi and Cameron Kaiser are tied for 31st at 5-over 77.

NEXT UP:

The second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate will be played on Saturday.
